Jenna Haze & Nikki Jayne

In late 2009, I found myself onstage at a sex exhibition interviewing two of the biggest stars of the pornography industry: brunette veteran, Jenna Haze, and Nikki Jayne, a British up-and-comer. The conversation was published in part on X&Y.

How do you girls find these conventions?

Nikki Jayne: I just feel like it’s normal now – it just comes second nature. At the start, you know, it was a little overwhelming.

(To Jenna Haze) And yourself?

Jenna Haze: I’m sorry – what was the question? I was looking at a dirty picture our manager was showing me…I apologise [laughs]. It was a very perverted picture. I got distracted!

Interesting.

JH: They’re fun. I’ve been doing them for eight years. I do LA Erotica, New York Exotica, Miami Exotica…and now this one. They’re a lot of fun for me: I enjoy meeting all of the fans and I enjoy the attention, doing the interviews and getting my name out there.

NJ: Yeah, because they’re the important people, you know? They keep us in business.

JH: Yeah.

NJ: …For them it’s a massive deal, and for us it’s really nice. We actually get to see people and know that we actually have like, proper fans – and lots of them.

JH: They appreciate us, and it’s cool to just meet people who are into us.

And how does Sexpo compare to the bigger convention in, say, LA and New York?

JH: Well, right now, it’s pretty much of the same – what, with this kind of crowd [motions off-stage].

NJ: Mm, it’s the same, but with less porn stars everywhere.

JH: The people here seem to be a little more polite, actually.

NJ: They’re really friendly!

JH: Yeah, really friendly, really polite. I haven’t had anybody really get out of hand or grab me or anything, which is great. I’m used to people being more aggressive.

I’m glad we have better manners.

NJ: I’ve actually found that Australian people are some of the friendliest that I’ve met.

Do you mean that?

NJ: Absolutely.

Nikki, you’re still relatively new to all of this, right? It’s been what, two years?

NJ: Yeah – when I first got into it, I was at a convention, just like this. I met some guys from Harmony Films, and then two days later I was in the Czech Republic shooting my first boy-girl scene in front of 50 people.

Wow – just like that.

NJ: Yeah, then they invited me to LA – I’d always wanted to go there – and I did a DP (double penetration) and an anal, all in my first movie. It happened fast, but after I made that first film, I took a break for nine months because I wasn’t a US citizen. I had to go home – and I didn’t want to do porn at home. Nine months went by and I just thought, “Fuck this – the weather’s terrible, I’m not happy living in England. I’m going to America, and I’m going to be a porn star.”

And for you, Jenna, after all this time in the industry, what was the motivation behind starting your own production company?

JH: Well, I’ve been working with other people for so long…I started my company this year in January – that’s after seven years of working for other people. I was tired of living out other people’s fantasies – I want to live out my fantasies. I want to make my kind of porn, my kind of smut – my kind of art.

The way you want to do it.

JH: Yes! The way I want.

NJ: I really admire that. The way you put all of your creativity and sexual energy into it.

JH: It’s a lot of work, responsibility and stress, but it’s a lot of fun at the same time. It really is. It’s amazing.

What do you guys think of the perception that men are losing their masculinity?

JH: Met-ro-sexuals?

NJ: Yeah, I’ve noticed that. Like, now they do men’s makeup and men seem to be more concerned about their image than women these days.

JH: I don’t like that.

NJ: No, me neither.

JH: I like a guy to be a guy.

Well, what do you think guys need to do? I know a guy who went out the other day for a spray tan – I asked him why, and he just goes, “Because I want to look good…”

JH: So go surf for a couple of hours. Be like, a rugged man. I like a guy to be hands on.

NJ: Yeah.

JH: I like a guy who can fix my stereo.

NJ: Guys should be guys, and girls should be girls.

JH: Yep – I don’t like a guy who pays more attention to his looks than me. If he has more beauty products than me, it’s over. Right there.

So what attracts you to a guy?

NJ: Me, the first thing is being with someone who makes me laugh. I’ve got to be physically attracted to them, but that’s not the main thing. I also end up liking guys that are a little mysterious – where you don’t know what’s going on in their heads, so you like picking them apart.

JH: Definitely someone who can make me laugh. I really like guys who are ambitious, who go after what they want. I like a guy who has his own life going on – we don’t like clingy guys…

Or jealous guys, I’d guess?

JH: Of course, because of what I do! But I don’t always go for looks. That’s not the important thing at all, and I think that guys think too much about looks, like you were saying, and it’s really not about that at all!

NJ: Yep.

JH: And of course, I like a guy who can eat pussy. You can’t forget that, right? [laughs]

NJ: Yes.

Definitely not. Tell me something funny that’s happened on set.

NJ: One time, I was giving a blowjob and I got a lot of spit going, and I was doing the my whole little…thing that I do – my signature moves – and somehow the spit got stringed up and flew, like, right across my face! I had this big string across my face and I just had to stop and laugh.

Oh god.

JH: This guy once actually flopped my fake eyelash off. And then, of course, there are the great old embarrassing bodily fluid functions that might come out when, you know, you don’t really want them to. That’s not so great, but you have to laugh at yourself, don’t you? You can’t take yourself too seriously.

Too right. Let’s get this out of the way: Does size matter?

JH: I tend to like the bigger guys [laughs]. As people can tell from my movies, my favourite guys are very large, well-endowed men. But – I’ve had guys that aren’t as big that have rocked my fucking world. So, it really does depend on how much you use it. The way you use it. And the chemistry with the person.

Yeah?

JH: I think that if a guy is really into pleasing a girl, it really makes a difference. When a guy fucks a girl and he’s so into himself, no matter how big or small it is – you’re not going to get off. It’s the same as giving head or eating pussy: if you enjoy it, I think you’re better at it.

NJ: Yeah, I think if a guy has a good rhythm, that’s good. I mean, I’d be lying if I sat here raving about small penises.

Is it like, once you have a huge one, it’s hard to go back?

Both: No! Not at all.

JH: Usually, bigger can be better. But there are always exceptions.

NJ: If you have that chemistry, it doesn’t matter. Girls are emotional – I think guys fuck your head more than your pussy.

Are there any stereotypes about the adult film industry that are actually true?

JH: Hmm, that’s interesting. You’ve got some good questions today.

NJ: Yeah.

JH: I like this interview.

I did come prepared.

JH: [laughs] …any stereotypes that are true? I’ve been in porn so long that I’m not sure I know them anymore. All of that stuff about porn girls being abused when they were younger and having daddy issues, I’ve found that’s mostly bullshit.

NJ: I actually find a lot of porn girls are intelligent. They have to defend themselves so much that they need to be. I’ve not met loads of dumbass porn chicks.

JH: I have [laughs].

Are the successful ones the smarter ones?

JH: Exactly – the successful ones are going to be the smarter ones. The ones getting fucked up and doing drugs…are usually not so bright. They’re usually the ones with the stereotypical “porn issues”. There are some stereotypes that are true – but it’s not the norm. We’re not just fucking and doing drugs – there’s a lot of paperwork and editing…

NJ: Yes.

JH: People think that I’m constantly getting fucked like, every day. People are always like, “Oh my god, you get fucked in the ass so much – aren’t you worried that you’re going to have to get a diaper?”

(All laugh)

JH: Sorry! I’ve heard that a lot – it’s crazy.

Don’t be. Nikki, you’re a relative newcomer to the industry and Jenna, you’d be considered a veteran – how long do…

JH: [laughs] That makes me feel old, thanks.

Let me rephrase – an experienced woman.

JH: Okay, that sounds sexy. I like it like that.

How long do you both see yourselves doing this for?

JH: I’m going to perform for at least five more years. Like I said, I started my own company and now directing and producing – I intend to take that as far as it will go. I’d love to build a little empire. I’m always going to be involved in the industry in one way or another.

NJ: I always find that everything I plan in my life never goes to plan. I like to take each day as it comes, and live in the moment – that’s how I do my life. I’m forever changing and evolving so…

Whatever happens, happens?

NJ: Exactly: whatever happens, happens.

How does your work affect your love lives?

JH: I’m in a relationship with Jules [Jordan – an actor and director who runs his own production company] for four years now. I do date women, on the side. I have a girlfriend at the moment who’s a kindergarten teacher in Las Vegas, actually. She’s amazing.

And your sex life?

JH: My personal sex life is so different from my work one. It’s so much more intimate – there are feelings. I go to work and have sex, and I get off like a motherfucker. I enjoy myself. I cum. It’s great – but it’s fucking. There’s no emotional ties.

Fucking and making love are completely different things.

JH: Completely. Yeah, I do go home and sometimes my boyfriend does fuck me. But, on camera, there’s not that emotional tie. Though I do use the same 10 or 12 men in my films – I call them my stable of men. I just take one out when I want to ride [laughs]. But I don’t have feelings for them, there’s nothing there – I’m very fond of their penises and the way that they fuck me, but other than that it’s nothing.

NJ: For me, this work has improved my sex life. When I meet guys, they fucking nail me because they think, “Oh my god, she’s a porn star.” So they give it their all.

JH: That’s awesome.

Jenna Haze runs Jennaration X Studios, and is soon to release two new films on julesjordan.com. She tweets @jenxstudios.

Nikki Jayne’s personal website, nikkijayne.com, will launch in 2010. Her films can be found at vivid.com.
